Continuing to juggle the demands of my part time job with the lure of potting and busy times with the allotment and family is really enjoyable, but has meant that there are never enough hours in the day.
After nearly 3 months of throwing most days, I am now just feeling a confidence growing and am tuned into the physical feel of the clay more and more. I have fired some dear little mugs and bowls with a new cream glaze which I am pleased with; with this success, I am hoping to try out a slate grey glaze on some jugs, mugs and the ever addictive bowls.
Friends at work have requested some mugs and cups (I cannot even start to imagine the euphoria of creating a saucer, but one step at a time!) So this is my project for this week – mugs of varying sizes, ranging from espresso cups to hearty mugs. I think it will do me good to clarify my goals in this way.
I met with a charming lady this week who lives in our village. She collects Lucian Freud prints and lent me the book, Man with a Blue Scarf, by Martin Gayford. It is completely fascinating to see into the psyche of this artist; so engrossed in his art and so inspiring as indeed he says ‘Astonish, disturb, seduce, convince.’ Wow, what an achievement if I ever manage that with my ceramics.
